Long County’s Josh Berry recently added to his football resume by receiving the Region 2-AA player of the year honor.
Berry, who set a school record for rushing yards this season, was one of 18 Blue Tide who received all-region honors. The region’s coaches made the selections.
This season, Berry became the school’s first 1,000-yard rusher, posting 1,292 yards.  He also led the team in scoring with 13 touchdowns en route to being named Long County’s Coastal Courier Player of the Year.
Other Blue Tide players recognized as members of the all-region first team were athlete DeOnte’ Ellis; linebacker Jeffery Hall; defensive lineman Nick Stock; offensive linemen Evan Strickland, Cody Smiley, and Randall Behrendt; and defensive backs Luke Golden and Vanda Vereen Jr.
Making the second team were defensive linemen Mathew Holts and Armando Toledo. Receiving honorable mention status were defensive lineman T.J. Sims; halfback Jaleel Braggs; wide receiver Shawn Mills; offensive linemen Tyler Groover and Delavin Hampton; and quarterback Jacob Turner.
Making the all-freshman team was halfback Brendon Scott.
Long County’s all-academic team picks were Stock, Golden and Jacob Turner.
“It’s an honor to be named to all of these teams. It means that the other coaches in the 2-AA have noticed your talent and ability,” LCHS athletic director Karen Swindell said. “Coach (Ron) Flott and the rest of the coaching staff are doing an outstanding job with our program.”
This season, the Blue Tide posted a 5-5 record — the best mark in school history.
