TYBEE ISLAND — The city council of a Georgia island town has instructed to the police chief to remove coyotes which began to appear on the island last year.

Tybee Island city council members on Thursday instructed Police Chief Bob Bryson to do his best to remove the coyotes. To help in that effort, they approved the purchase of a $1,000 tranquilizer gun and a trap.

The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/XhPEGt) that there have been varying reports about the danger the coyotes pose. City Councilman

Bryson said that some residents have said the coyotes run away when spotted, and others reported threatening behavior.

Tybee Island Councilman Bill Garbett said that he knew of one resident whose dog was attacked. He said the coyotes are not afraid of people.
