Freeze warning out for area tonight

POSTED: January 22, 2013 10:14 a.m.

Temperatures here could drop into the 20s early Wednesday and the whole area has been put under a freeze warning for tonight.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service say arctic air is in place over much of the nation, and temperatures are expected to be well below average over the next week.

In south Georgia, low temperatures are expected to be 28 to 30 degrees in several counties. A freeze watch for the area will be in effect through early Wednesday morning.

The forecast for Liberty and Bryan counties say the coastal areas will be in the mid to low 30s, while farther inland and in Long County they could hit the upper 20s.

In the north Georgia mountains, temperatures dropped that low Tuesday morning and winds brought the wind chill into the teens. It's expected to be worse Wednesday, falling into the teens early Wednesday morning. In Blairsville, for instance, Wednesday morning's low is projected to be 19 degrees.
