Manna House does not base eligibility on age

Letter to editor

POSTED: January 24, 2013 8:30 a.m.

Editor,
I am writing concerning a recent call to Sound off about Manna House’s policies. Manna House does not discriminate. That’s it! We are required to follow USDA and Georgia SNAP regulations.
We do administer what is referred to as the “Senior Brown Bag” program. To qualify for this supplemental food-assistance program, an individual has to be 60 or older and meet low-income guidelines. This is our only age requirement.
There are perishable foods available daily that do not require the application process. It is a shame that the caller did not take the time to call our executive director, the Rev. Katrina Deason, before calling Sound off. She is always willing to discuss and explain policies and procedures and will go out of her way to provide assistance. She can be reached at 368-3660.

— Charles R. Rogers, president
Manna House Board of Directors
