The Long County High School boys’ basketball team dropped a tough region contest with Benedictine, 49-39 in overtime, Tuesday in Savannah.
Long County coach Deshon Brock said that his players played well for most of the night, but they were unable to establish a tempo, resulting in the team having to play a half-court-style game.
“We had a couple of untimely turnovers and a defensive breakdown in between those turnovers (in overtime),” he said.
The Blue Tide was forced to foul when they were behind in overtime, but the Cadets made their foul shots to pull away.
Josh Berry led the Tide with 13 points, and Jamaal Anderson had 10 points.
For the Cadets, Alex Pierce had 13 points and Brad Stewart 11.
With the loss, the Tide fell to 9-10 overall and 3-5 in the 2B-AA sub-region. The Cadets improved their overall record to 9-9.
The Blue Tide is back on their home court tonight as they face Toombs County (5-10) in another big region showdown.
Brock said if his team is to get back on the winning track, it has got to play four full quarters and limit turnovers.
Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
