POSTED: February 8, 2008 5:02 a.m.

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia Southern University instructor is scheduled to stand trial Monday on charges he sexually assaulted a male student.

Juan Antonio Serna, a foreign languages instructor and private tutor, has been charged with sexual battery and aggravated sodomy after a 19-year-old man accused him of forcing himself on him.

Statesboro Police detective Tommy Brown says Serna was a guest at a gathering at the man's apartment in 2006 when the alleged incident took place. The man reported the assault the next day.

According to Georgia Southern University spokesman Christian Flathman, Serna has been suspended without pay and banned from campus since his arrest.
