First Presbyterian Christian Academy’s boys’ basketball team still is in the hunt for another Georgia Independent School Association state title. On Thursday night, the Highlanders beat Flint River Academy, 66-35, in Woodbury in their state-playoff opener. Highlander coach Ernie Walthour said it was a complete team effort and wants his players to remain focused on the games that possibly lie ahead. The Highlanders were scheduled to play Terrell Academy Saturday at Middle Georgia College in Cochran with a berth in the state semifinals on the line. Results were not available by press time. Walthour said FPCA’s two biggest rivals, Frederica Academy and Memorial Day, are on the other side of the bracket and still in contention. Last year, Frederica Academy denied the Highlanders the state title.
