According to national recruiting analyst Chad Simmons, Liberty County High School football player Jeremy Caldwell-Fabergas was among the top wide receivers/tight ends at the 2013 MVP Camp, held last weekend in Valdosta.
Simmons reported nearly 200 players attended the camp, which offered coaching advice and drills to the best up-and-coming football athletes from around the South.
Simmons said Fabergas, a prospect for the class of 2014, went up against the top defensive backs in the one-on-ones and handled the ball well en route to receiving the MVP award for the receiver/tight end category.
“He is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound receiver with good speed, body control, and he displayed strong hands. He plays linebacker in high school, so he is very physical,” Simmons said.
Liberty County offensive coordinator Ryan Glazer said Fabergas’ hard work in the weight room and good showing on the field this past season may get him some offers from Division I colleges.
Fabergas played many positions for the Panthers this season. He shined as a receiver with 21 receptions for 454 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had seven carries for 20 yards. Defensively, he played linebacker and tallied 70 solo tackles, 25 assists, five sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
Glazer said up-and-coming eighth-grader Richard LeCounte also attended the camp. LeCounte had a good showing as well, and Glazer said it was a good experience for the student athlete who already excels in basketball.
“It was a good experience for him to see some different competition, since he is so used to being one of the best kids for his age at everything he does around here,” Glazer said. “The sky is the limit for him if he puts the hard work in.”
