First Presbyterian Christian Academy claimed another win in the state boys’ basketball playoffs Saturday to earn a spot in the Georgia Independent Schools Association final four.
In front of a packed gym at Georgia Middle College in Cochran, the Highlanders took down Terrell Academy, 58-47.
Highlander coach Ernie Walthour said he is pleased the boys have managed to fight their way into the final four but added they need to stay focused and keep their winning streak alive.
“Right now, we’ve won seven games in a row, and this is definitely the right time to be winning,” he said. “The kids are playing real well right now, and I hope that we continue the streak all the way to the end.”
Last season, the Highlanders made it to the championship game before losing to Frederica Academy.
Frederica was eliminated Monday. FPCA’s other potential adversary — area rival Memorial Day — still is in the title hunt, but Walthour said his focus is on their next obstacle, Griffin Christian Academy.
That game is at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Mercer University in Macon.
“We know Memorial is still in it, but right now we have to get ready for Griffin. There is nothing else on my mind right now but getting past them,” Walthour said.
