The official celebration for the 40th anniversary of Dixie Stables will be March 23 during its 35th annual spring horse show in Allenhurst.
The event is expected to draw riders from across Southeast Georgia.
According to a news release, Dixie Stables has had more than 2,000 students since its inception. The first barn at Dixie Stables was built in 1968.
Since then, three barns have been added, as well as a three training rings and a large show ring. About 30 horses are housed at the stables.
“I look around and I can’t believe it has been 40 years,” owner Lynn Pace said.
When asked about Dixie Stables’ longevity, Pace said, “I never spent money I did not have, and I unknowingly and luckily made good decisions along the way. I absolutely love what I do, so quitting was never an option.”
Dixie Stables also has announced that former student Caitlin Jarriel will be an assistant trainer and instructor.
Having started riding lessons at the age of 6, Caitlin brings years of riding and show experience.
She said her fondest memories of Dixie Stables were “being out here in the summers, riding horses from 8 in the morning until 8 at night or until Lynn ran me off!”
“I believe in Lynn’s work,” she said. “I want to help continue the tradition any way I can.”
According to Jarriel, Dixie Stables teaches one to see the bigger picture.
“It’s about life-long friendships, escaping from the stress of life, and teaches patience, trust and communication,” she said. “Most important, riders gain confidence and learn to believe in themselves.”
