Natural Resource Discovery Day planned in Savannah

National Resource Discovery Day, an event centered on wildlife-profession education, will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge visitor center.
Areas focused on include biology, water management, archaeology, hunting, fire management, species protection and more.
Participants will discover how birds are banded, learn about wildland fire with hands-on activities involving real fire equipment, experience target shooting with a gun or bow, gain a better understanding of the Fish and Wildlife Service’s role in protecting endangered species, and learn why water management matters to wildlife on Savannah NWR. 
The event is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine. The visitors center is on Highway 17 six miles north of Savannah.
