FPCA plays 1st baseball game

Highlanders step on diamond for first time on Thursday in scrimmage against PCA

POSTED: March 4, 2013 10:54 a.m.

It was scheduled as a regular season game, but was quickly dubbed a scrimmage because of an umpire scheduling conflict.
Either way, the First Presbyterian Christian Academy Highlanders baseball team stepped on the diamond to start the 2013 season Thursday.
The FPCA boys traveled to Pinewood Christian Academy in Bellview. The scheduling conflict delayed the game 45 minutes and it was called due to darkness in the fourth inning.
The unofficial scrimmage score had the FPCA boys trailing 8-5, but coach Andy Yanzetich said his team came out fighting.
“We had eight hits… In fact, eight of our nine starters had hits,” Yanzetich said.
FPCA also had three walks in the four innings of play.
Yanzetich said Phillip Swindell went 1 for 2 with a double and 2RBIs. Jake Lee was 1 for 2 with a RBI and a stolen base. Dalton Smiley was 1 for 2 with a RBI and DeShaun Collins was 1 for 3 with a run scored.
Yanzetich said Collins played well at short stop.
The Highlanders did struggle on the mound.
“Defensively we are still a work in progress, “Yanzetich said. “We only gave up 2 hits but walked 12 and hit a batter.”
FPCA will play Bethesda at 4 p.m. next Thursday in Savannah.
