The Long County High School boys and girls soccer teams lost to the teams from Vidalia High School on Friday in Ludowici.
In the early game, the Lady Tide lost 7-0 after falling behind 4-0 at halftime.
“The girls played so much better in the midfield, we controlled the midfield in the second half and had more chances offensively…(the girls) played much better in this game and we are showing signs of playing together as a team,” coach Darrell Mosley said.
In the late game, the boys came out strong and played great in the first half, not allowing the Indians to score until there were less than three minutes left to play before the break. But the Indians scored six more goals in the second period to take the 7-0 victory.
“We started to tire down and Vidalia had a lot of subs and wore us down, most of our team are freshmen and sophomores so we have great potential,” Mosley said.
He praised the play of his goalie, saying, “Adalberto Vidrio is such a leader and saved us several times with a great effort.”
With the losses both the girls and boys fell to 1-3 overall and in Region 2-AA. They faced St. Vincent’s Academy and Benedictine Military School in Savannah on Tuesday. The squads travel to Wayne County on Thursday to take on the Yellow Jacket teams in Jesup. The girls game begins at 5 p.m. with the boys following at 6:30 p.m.
In other soccer news, the Liberty County Lady Panthers lost 7-0 to South Effingham on Tuesday. The Panthers, however, managed a 2-1 win against the Mustangs.
The Liberty squads were scheduled to host Brunswick on Tuesday.
