The Long County High School baseball team continued to roll up the wins last week with a 15-1 shellacking of McIntosh County in Region 2-AA on Friday in Darien.
With the win, the Blue Tide improved their overall record to 5-1.
Long County head coach Brian Thomas commented on the game, praising his team’s offensive and defensive play.
“We were fortunate to hit the baseball pretty well in this game. I also was very proud of our defense. We made several good plays in the field to stall a few McIntosh rallies,” Thomas said.
Shawn Mills, Chase Rogers and Cole Ray all went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead the Blue Tide’s offense.
Starting pitcher Cody Fleck continued to have an outstanding year as he went five innings, only allowing four hits and one earned run.
The victory was the first region win of the year for Long County.
“It’s good to get the first region win out of the way. We’re looking forward to the rest of the region season,” Thomas said.
The Blue Tide were scheduled to face powerhouse Jeff Davis (3-1) Tuesday in Ludowici in another big region matchup. Results from this game will be in this Friday’s Coastal Courier.
On Saturday, the Tide’s region schedule continues as they face Benedictine Military Academy at 6 p.m. in Ludowici.  The Cadets also come into the game with an impressive record. As of Monday, they were sitting at 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the region. Both teams appear to be pretty evenly matched, with the Cadets averaging nine runs a game compared to the Blue Tide’s 10 runs.  On the defensive side, BC is allowing three runs a game, while the Blue Tide top in the region by giving up only one run a night.
