It was a busy weekend for the Bradwell track teams with back-to-back meets Friday and Saturday.  
On Friday afternoon, the boys finished second in the Camden Invitational in Kingsland, finishing behind the host school. On Saturday morning, the girls and a few of the boys went to Savannah for the Savannah State University Early Bird Invitational, where the Lady Tigers finished in first place.
Bradwell boys’ track coach DeAndre Davis said his team had a few runners missing due to family commitments, and he was proud that the rest of the squad stepped up and placed well. He added that the overall running times are dropping as his team continues to improve.
“These invitationals give the kids an opportunity to go up against some good competition,” he said. “We are still trying to put pieces together. The kids are learning to be a family, and it shows in practice and in the meets. We have more depth than we have had in previous years.”
The track teams will travel Saturday to Ware County for the Swamp Relays. Davis said the meet will give some of his other kids an opportunity to run. David Thornton continues to be a state contender in the distance events, and Sterling Burns continues to be a force in the field events.
“Switching to a new region has been great, but also comes with some challenges,” Davis added. “Two of the new schools in the region have pole vaulters, and we don’t so those are areas where we lose points.”
