The Long County High School soccer teams split their games Friday against Metter in Ludowici, with the girls winning big and the boys losing.
In the early game, the Lady Tide dominated their matchup against the Lady Tigers, 9-0.  Samantha Garcia, Katie Estill, and Alyssa Anderson each had two goals, while Ashley Tanner and Kaylyn McEwin each had one score.
The Lady Tide picked up their other score from a deflected goal off of the foot of a Metter player.
Having another stellar game in front of the net was Long County goalie Teresa Chihuahua, who got the shutout.
The boys’ game was much tighter, with Metter winning 3-1. The first half was a defensive battle, with the first goal not being scored until the 24th minute when Metter went up, 1-0, and took that lead into the break.
Long County tied the score in the eighth minute of the second half when Tony Duenes powered the ball just past the outstretched arms of the Tiger goalie.  But Metter was too much for the Blue Tide as it added two scores late in the period.
With the win, the Lady Tide’s overall record is 3-5, and their Region 2-AA mark is 2-5 in the 2-AA Region. The Blue Tide fell to 2-6 overall and 1-6 in the region.
The two teams are back on the field Tuesday when they travel to Pembroke to face Bryan County.  When the two teams met last month, both Long County teams won, 6-0, so the Redskins will be looking to even the score.
The girls’ game starts at
4 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow.
