Former Long County High School student and 4-H Archery team member Linda Stephens recently took second in her division in the National Collegiate Indoor Archery Tournament at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.
Stephens, who is a member of the Eagles’ archery team, was the runner-up in the recurve women’s division. Stephens had a total score of 1090, which was 19 points behind Texas A&M’s Kayla DeBord (1109), who took home the gold.  Rounding out the top three was Columbia University’s Tiffany Kimm, who had 1080 points.
Though Stephens fell short in her quest for the national title, she did post the highest score ever in this event for a GSU competitor.
“Hats off to Linda for an outstanding job and for representing Long County High School,” LCHS Athletic Director Karen Swindell said. “Not only does she excel in archery but also in academics. We’re all proud of Linda and her accomplishments
Stephens began her archery career as a student at LCHS and a member of the Long County 4-H Archery Team. In 2010, she was one of the key members to lead the team to a state title and a bronze medal in the nation.
Last year, as a member of the Eagle’s team, she was an all-American and all-academic performer.  She is attempting to make the U.S. Archery Team and compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
