One hundred sixty-two schools competed at the Bob Hayes Invitational on Saturday, and the Liberty County High School tracksters placed in several events.
The Lady Panthers placed 17th overall and the boys team finished 23rd overall, according to track coach Nathan Mims.
Lady Panther Courtney Bennett took third in the discus throw, clearing 126 feet. Briannae Gadson placed eighth in the shot put (37-feet, 10.5 inches).
The Lady Panthers’ 4X100-meter relay team of Destiny Hall, Ajiah Lewis, Brianna Reece and Jaelynn James finished 12th out of 43 at 50.64. James also finished 12th out of 63 runners in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.81.
JaVoni Canty finished 12th out of 48 competitors in the discus throw, clearing 97 feet.
Newcomer Dajuan Harding placed seventh in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 50.34 seconds for the boys team.
Panther Jeremy Caldwell-Fabregas finished fourth in the high jump at 6 feet.
The Panther 4X100 relay team of Patrick Williams, Jeremy Caldwell-Fabregas, Rashawn Harris and Chris Williamson placed 13th, clocking in at 43.84. The 4X400 relay team of Chris Williamson, Jordan Waters, Rashawn Harris and Dajuan Harding placed 15th at 3:32.
Williamson took 12th in the 400-meter dash at 51.34 and placed 15th in the 200-meter dash at 22.6. Harris finished 12th out of 42 runners in the 300-meter hurdles at 41.38.
Mims said the meet is known as the largest, single-day track meet in the nation and having several Panthers place well shows how hard the kids have worked in achieving their overall goals.
“I think we did great but our ceiling is far from being reached,” he said. “I think we are where we should be in the middle of the season.”
