Blue Tide snaps losing streak in Vidalia

POSTED: March 25, 2013 10:22 a.m.

The Long County High School baseball team snapped a three game losing streak Tuesday, defeating Vidalia High School on the road.
The Blue Tide scored in the top of the first inning, but that 1-0 lead held only through two innings. In the third and fourth the Indians went on a rampage, rounding the bases at will to go up 6-1.
Seeing that starting pitcher John Christianson was struggling, Tide coach Brian Thomas brought in Tristan Goodro. The reliever found his spot and began shutting down the Indians.
In the fifth the Blue Tide bats woke up. Long County scored eight runs to go up 9-6, which held for the win.
Goodro had a solid night, going 4 2/3 innings, giving up 2 hits, no runs and striking out 8. Christianson went 2 1/3 innings, giving up 5 hits, 4 earned runs, and struck out 3. Leading the way at the plate for the Blue Tide was Luke Golden who went 3 for 4 with a double and Cody Fleck who went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs.
“Stopping the losing streak is good because it shows we can make adjustments,” Thomas said. “(This) was the first time that we have beaten Vidalia in many years, maybe ever. We can’t find any recent records of us beating them.”
The coach said, “It was a great road win in Vidalia. They are a great team and are really well coached.”
With the 2-AA win, the Blue Tide’s record is 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the region.
