Long County High School has three finalists in Canoochee EMC’s Washington Youth Tour Essay Competition. The students, Kristina Perez, Tyann Brown and Katrina Young, were interviewed by a panel of judges representing Canoochee EMC’s Washington Youth Tour program. The interviews were conducted Tuesday at the Canoochee EMC offices in Reidsville.
The contest was open to high-school juniors from both public and private schools within Canoochee EMC’s service area. These schools included Bryan County High School, Claxton High School, Faith Baptist Christian School, Long County High School, Pinewood Christian Academy and Tattnall County High School. Students who don’t attend these schools but whose parents are members of Canoochee EMC also were eligible.
Participants, who were required to be 16 years old by June 1, 2013, submitted a 500-750 word essay on one of the topic choices provided. The essays were graded by an English instructor and judged on subject knowledge, originality, composition, neatness and grammar.
Long County English instructor Sabrina Caines facilitated the students’ essay writing.
