The Long County High School soccer program got a glimpse Tuesday of where the team hopes to be when they faced Benedictine Military School and St. Vincent’s Academy.
The powerful Saints and Cadets easily beat their Long County opponents, with St. Vincent’s dismantling the Lady Tide, 10-0, and Benedictine downing the Blue Tide, 7-0.
As of Thursday, St. Vincent’s is the No. 3 2-AA girls’ team in the state, while Benedictine is the No. 8 boys’ team, according to EurosportScoreboard.com.
In the girls’ game, it was clear early that the team from Savannah was the quicker and more physical team as the Saints went up, 7-0, resulting in a mandatory halftime. After halftime, St. Vincent’s scored three more goals to end the game.
Though the boys’ game was a little more competitive, the Blue Tide clearly were outgunned.
With the losses, both Long County teams fell to 5-7 overall.  Benedictine improved its record to 11-1-1, and St. Vincent’s moved to 10-2.
The Long County teams will be back on the field Tuesday when they face another tough program in Atkinson County. The Rebels currently have a 9-1 record, while the Lady Rebels sit at 5-6.
The games are in Ludowici with the girls’ game beginning at 5 p.m. and the boys’ game starting at 7.
