The Long County High School baseball team continued to roll with a decisive 11-5 victory over Atkinson County on Tuesday in front of a large crowd in Ludowici.
The win was the Blue Tide’s fifth in a row and brought their record to 11-3 overall and 6-3 in Region 2-AA.
The Tide men jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and never looked back, adding two more runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth.
Tristan Goodro got the win in relief of starting pitcher Chase Rogers.
The batters for the Blue Tide were consistent all night, putting up nine hits in six innings. Long County also played a great game in the outfield by not committing any errors, compared to three made by the Rebels.
“I like the way we put six (runs) up early and never gave up the big inning to let them get back in it … Tristan was big for us coming in in the second inning when they had the bases loaded. Fortunately, we were able to get out of that inning with them only putting up one (run),” Blue Tide head coach Brian Thomas said.
He said one of the reasons that the Tide have been able to get on this win streak was due to offensive changes.
“We made some adjustments at the plate, and with that we are now swinging the bat better,” he said.
Long County moved up to third in the region standings behind Benedictine Military School (13-2 overall and 8-1 in the region) and Jeff Davis High School (10-4, 7-2). The Blue Tide have the opportunity to make up ground on those rivals as they take on Jeff Davis on Saturday in Hazlehurst and Benedictine on Tuesday in Savannah.
Before the Tide face the Yellow Jackets and the Cadets, however, they have McIntosh County today in Ludowici. According to Ga.PrepCountry.com, the Buccaneers are sitting at 0-11 overall and 0-7 in the region.  When the two region opponents met last month, the Tide won easily, 15-1. Long County has dominated the series recently, winning six of the past seven games.
