Frederica Academy topped First Presbyterian Christian Academy, 6-2,  Tuesday afternoon in a Georgia Independent School Association Region 2-AA baseball game at the St. James Sports Center field.
The visiting Knights got a few walks and hits throughout the game to stay ahead.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after a batter reached on an error and two batters were walked to load the bases. A deeply hit ball scored a run, and as the Highlanders tossed in the ball, another Knight attempted to score but was tagged by Phillip Swindell to close the inning.
The Highlanders were ready to strike back and had runners on first and second with one out. However, the Knights converted a double play to keep the Highlanders from crossing home base.
In the fourth inning, FPCA relief pitcher Jake Lee hit two batters with pitches and walked in a run to give Frederica a 2-0 lead. The Knights capitalized on seemingly every opportunity. Highlander baseball coach Andy Yanzetich said the team gave up just one hit but gave up 11 walks and committed two errors.
Offensively, Richard Lovelady led FPCA with two hits and two RBIs. Morgan Crean also had two hits.
Lovelady, who started on the hill, took the loss.
The Highlanders are 6-5 overall and 2-4 in Region 2-AA, with four region games left on their schedule. FPCA has repeat games against Trinity Christian and Frederica Academy — two of their region losses to date — left on the schedule, but Yanzetich thinks they can make a run for the region tournament.
“When we played Trinity last time, we lost, 10-9, but at one point had an 8-2 lead,” he said. “I feel confident we can reduce errors next time and earn a win.”
