Liberty Co. track and field teams place second overall at Region 3-AAAA meet

Liberty County High School’s track and field teams placed second overall at the Region 3-AAAA meet April 17-19 at Statesboro.
The Panther boys and girls had a combined score of 184, second to Statesboro High, which took first with a combined score of 242.
The Lady Panthers finished second in their meet with a total of 98 points, while the Panther boys totaled 86 points to finish in fourth place.
Lady Panther Courtney Bennett took first place in the discus throw and shot put, clearing 129 feet and 37-feet, 10-inches, respectively. JaVoni Canty was second in the discus with a toss of 118-11. Lady Panther Brianna Reece placed second in the long jump at 17-0. Briannae Gadson placed second in the shot put at 37- 1/2.
Pole-vaulters LaNiya Long and Olivia Wallace placed second and third, respectively, both clearing 6-0. Jaelyn James finished first in the 100-meter dash at 13.02 seconds.
For the Panther boys, Freddie McSwain placed second in the high jump with a jump of 6-6. Chris Williamson and Dajuan Harding placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 dash at 50.24 and 50.75. Harding also placed second in the 200 dash at 22.77. Jordan Waters finished second in the 800 run at 2:03.62.
Bennett and Canty both qualified for the state sectionals in the discus. Other sectional qualifiers from LCHS included Jeremy Caldwell-Fabergas and McSwain in the high jump; Reece in the long jump; Long, Wallace and Panther Chris Helvie in the pole vault; Gadson and Bennett in the shot put; the team of Destiny Hall, Ajiah Lewis, Diamond Gadson Jaelyn James and Reece in the 4X100 relays; Williamson and Harding in the 400; James in the girls’ 100 dash; Patrick Williams in the boys’ 100 dash; Harris in hurdles events; and Waters in the 800 run.
The sectional meet was scheduled for April 27 in Statesboro. Results were unavailable at press time.
