Milton-Jones goes to Texas

Riceboro native, WNBA veteran signs with San Antonio

Former Riceboro native DeLisha Milton-Jones (8), pictured playing with the Los Angeles Sparks, will start her 15th season as a WNBA player but won’t be sporting a Sparks uniform. During the offseason Milton-Jones was signed by the San Antonio Silver Stars.

Riceboro native DeLisha Milton-Jones will start her 15th season as a WNBA player this month, but she won’t be wearing her usual Los Angeles Sparks jersey.
During the offseason, Milton-Jones, who is in the top-10 in several categories of the WNBA record books, was signed by the San Antonio Silver Stars.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed, according to the Silver Stars website.
Milton-Jones played for the Sparks from 1999-2004 before playing three seasons with the Washington Mystics.
In 2008, she returned to the Sparks and remained with the team until the Stars signed her.
According to an article posted on the Silver Stars’ website, Milton-Jones ranks among the WNBA all-time leaders in points (eighth with 5,203), rebounds (seventh with 2,383), steals (5th; 584), games played (sixth with 435) and minutes played (fourth with 13,270). She has averaged 12.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals in 435 career games.
She was named to the WNBA All-Stars in 2000 and 2007 and helped the Sparks earn WNBA titles in 2001 and 2002.
During previous offseasons, Milton-Jones played with several teams in the European League earning EuroLeague Championships in 2003 and 2006. She also played on the gold-medal winning Team USA basketball squads in the 2000 and 2008 Olympics.
She joins Becky Hammon as the second player on the Silver Stars preparing for a 15th year of play.
San Antonio has preseason games against the Indiana Fever on May 11 and 15 before they starting regular-season play May 23 by hosting the Fever at 8 p.m.
