Wolf Animal Hospital of Jesup and the Liberty County Fire Services Station 15 recently provided an animal clinic for area residents.
The clinic was organized by firefighter Cory Young, with hospital owner Dr. Clint Hall conducting the medical exams.
Some services provided included administering vaccines for rabies, distemper and canine rattlesnake. Specialty services like equestrienne vaccinations and microchipping also were provided.
Young said the event, which was in its fourth year, was held as a fundraiser by the volunteer side of the department. The funds help the department purchase items when funding isn’t available.
“Some of the things that we need are not always funded through the county. That’s why the volunteer side still has these fundraisers,” he said.
The clinic drew residents from Liberty, Long, Tattnall, and Appling counties. Owen Kingsley, an engineer with the fire department, said the station was a good, central location at which to hold the clinic for all of the counties in the region.
Victor and Rebecca Poole of Baxley brought a kitten they were fostering to be examined and vaccinated.
“We use to live in Jesup, and Dr. Hall was awesome. We now foster kittens, trying to find homes for them, and heard that the clinic was going on, so we brought this kitten over to get shots,” Rebecca Poole said.
Other firefighters who worked the clinic included engineer Arsie Bennett, firefighter Stephen Menges and rehab officer Susan Kingsley.
Personnel from AirEvac displayed their helicopter.
