Routine items handled by the Liberty County Commission last week included:

• Heard future water-service delivery area recommendations from Rachel Hatcher on behalf of the Liberty Regional Water Resources Council, a committee that brought staff and elected officials together to plan for future water needs. The plan would have county service slated to expand along Leroy Coffer Highway from Arcadia Drive to Rogers Pasture Road and on Lewis Frasier Road from Screven Fork to the Riceboro service-delivery area.
• Approved removal of the proposed Hampton Ridge Subdivision in Walthourville from the county’s water-service delivery area so it can be served by the city. The subdivision already is within city limits.
• Approved a special exception petition from HCLM, developer of the Colonies at Habersham Plantation, to allow installations of a four-foot decorative fence around a retention pond. The ordinance calls for a six-foot chain-link fence but makes allowances for “different fencing material” upon approval from the county.
• Authorized a $13,256 bid from Yancey Brothers, a Caterpillar dealer in Savannah, for replacement of a road department motor grader.
• Renewed a contract with the city of Gum Branch to provide fire-protection service; the contract at this time does not require any type of payment because the fire-response staff still is volunteer-based.
• Adopted a revision to the county timber ordinance that requires timber harvesters to ensure that notice of the work is “continuously posted and displayed in good condition and in a conspicuous location on each tract of land.” The item is supposed to help the county better enforce its timber ordinance and stay on top of timber-tax collections.
