Former Liberty County High School baseball player Chris Arnold is having a good season as the Savannah State University Tigers keep advancing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, according to the school’s athletic website.
The Tigers beat Maryland Eastern Shore, 3-1, on Wednesday in game one of the tournament in Norfolk, Va.
On Thursday, the Tigers and Norfolk State were tied 11-11 before the Tigers broke open with 11 runs in the final two innings to win 21-11.
The win places the Tigers’ in the winner bracket and the team was scheduled to play yesterday against Coppin State.
As of Saturday morning the Tigers hold a 31-21 overall mark, the most wins for the team since 2007. They are 17-7 in MEAC.
Arnold is among the stat leaders for RBIs with:
✓ 21 (fifth on the team),
✓fourth on the team in walks with 17
✓ tied for third in sacrifice bunts with 5
✓ fifth in total plate appearances with 156
✓ fifth for games played, 43, 42 of which he started, and
✓ fourth on the team for doubles with 9.
He’s had 127 at bats, 18 runs scored and 29 hits.
