Tide soccer teams honored at banquet

The Long County High School boys and girls soccer teams wrapped up their inaugural seasons with awards last week at the spring sports banquet.  
For the Blue Tide, Alberto Nevarez was named offensive Most Valuable Player, and Alex Toledo was named the defensive MVP.  Tanner Brant won the Utility Award, Adalberto Vidrio won the Leadership Award, and Malik Williams received the Blue Tide Award.  Pedro Marrero earned the Academic Award for excellence in the classroom was.  
Other Blue Tide who lettered were Laquan Abercrombie, Joserath Barahona Perez, Randall Behrendt, Antonio Duenes, Malik Fedon, James Fox, Pedro Marrerro, Jared Martin, Shawn Martinez, David Mejia, Francisco Mejia, Jesus Mejia, Carlos Nevarez and Alexis Toledo.  Zach Gay received a certificate of participation.
For the Lady Tide, Samantha Garcia took home the offensive MVP award, and Hannah Johnston was named defensive MVP.  Janet Nevarez received the Leadership Award, and Alyssa Anderson received the Utility Award.  Taylor Poole was a double winner, claiming both the Blue Tide and the Academic awards.  
Also earning letters for the Lady Tide were Alexus Avila, Alejandra Chihuahua, Teresa Chihuahua, Harley Dawson, Katie Estill, Madalyne Flynn, Hannah Golden, Jennifer Hernandez, Kathy Lara, Kaylyn McEwin, Jade Schmidt and Kylie Yancey.  Jacqueline Cisneros and Karina Nevarez received certificates of participation.
The Blue Tide went 5-10 in their first season, while the Lady Tide went 6-9.
Also at the sports banquet, the Tide track-and-field, golf and baseball teams were recognized.  Results of those awards will be in upcoming editions of the Courier.
