Fire destroys Long County home

Two residents lost all their belongings

POSTED: June 5, 2013 9:46 a.m.

Two Tennessee natives living in Long County lost everything Sunday morning in a fire that destroyed their home.

According to Long County/Ludowici Fire Department Chief Richard Truman, firefighters were dispatched around 5 a.m. to a structure fire at Morgan Lake near the Wayne County line. Upon their arrival, the first responders found a recreational vehicle camper fully engulfed in flames. Truman said his firefighters extinguished the blaze in around 10 minutes, and then proceeded to tackle hot spots around home.

Truman said that Mark Suggs and Amy Howell, who are contract employees with Rayonier Inc. in Jesup, were living at the residence. The two roommates were awoken by the fire, which appeared to originate in the home’s kitchen area.

The chief said that everything in the home was destroyed and Suggs and Howell lost all their possessions. The Red Cross is providing assistance to both victims, but they still need help, Truman said. Anyone who wants to help can call the Red Cross at 876-3975.
