The Ludowici City Council on Thursday held a special called meeting Thursday to approve a contract for infrastructure work, including sidewalk repair and pipe installation.
The contract, which the council approved unanimously, went to CMAD Construction/Bill Nutting for $49,999.  According to the Department of Transportation grant-request letter, projects will include sidewalk repair, drainage-pipe installation and resurfacing on selected streets. The agreement stated that the work would take place on Main Street, North Railroad Street and McQueen Street.
According to Mayor James Fuller, the deadline was approaching to provide the information to the DoT for a grant, which necessitated the special meeting.
Fuller also told the council that work on the drainage ponds did not cost as much as anticipated and, as a result, the remaining funds from a $500,000 grant could be used to  run additional water and sewer lines on Macon Street.
Fuller said that the city would accept bids on this work.
Fuller also said that with the early voting going on at city hall for the special called election to fill two vacant council seats, the regularly scheduled meeting that would have taken place Tuesday will be rescheduled to after the June 18 election. He said that with the polling equipment in the meeting room, there would not be sufficient space to allow the public to take part in the meeting.
Once a date had been set, the information will be provided to the public.
Members of the city council who attended the meeting were Mary Hamilton, Gwen Davis, Mark Chesser and Fuller.
