Golfers from all over southeast Georgia came out June 8 to compete in the fifth annual Mabel Creel Memorial Golf Tournament at Cherokee Rose Golf Course.
The event, organized by the HAPfan Foundation as a fundraiser for scholarships, drew 10 teams and raised $3,900, according to HAPfan board of trustees member Elise Stafford.
This year’s winning team consisted of Levi Moody, John Floyd, Chuck Smith and Ben Floyd, who split the $400 first prize.  The tourney’s runner-up was the team of Jordan Roberson, Chris Brinker, Bo Strickland and Drew Gully, who split $300.  Rounding out the top three was the team of Brett Sikes, B.J. Strickland, Toby Howard and Anthony Howard, who split a $200 prize.
In individual events, Dustin McCain won the award for closest shot to the pin award at No. 7, and Anthony Howard earned the award for longest drive at No. 14. Both received Applebee’s gift cards. Each participant received at least one door prize. Nine-year-old Gracie Stafford was recognized as the tourney’s youngest competitor.
Elise Stafford said the golf tournament raises money for $500 scholarships to graduating seniors from private and public schools in Long and Liberty counties. This year, the event awarded scholarships to Kylie Yancey, Joey Cannon and Kayla Williams.
Stafford said that she appreciated all of the sponsors, volunteers and participants.
