Team Hot Spot 5 earned first place finish in the 23-and-under division and a $900 cash award in the 27th annual Two-Way Sport Fishing Club King Fish Classic on June 22 in Darien. Team members are Cameron Mattingly, Captain David Massey, Doc Massey, Ben Carter, Rob Harrington and Tracy Roraback.

Local father and son anglers Moe and Joe Gill and their team, Moe Money, netted the largest catch June 14-15 at the 2013 Golden Isles Kingfish Classic on St. Simons Island, winning the first place prize of $10,000.
A second local team, Hot Spot 5, earned first place in the 23-and-under division and a $900 cash award June 22 in the 27th annual Two-Way Sport Fishing Club King Fish Classic held in Darien.
Team Moe Money, which includes the Gills and anglers Mark Strickland and Lance Royal, landed a 43.33-pound kingfish to earn the top prize.
The Moe Money team headed out from Shellman’s Bluff aboard Moe Gill’s 2010 Mercury-Powered Onslow Bay. According to a report by the Southern Kingfish Association, the team landed the giant kingfish in an area near Gray’s Reef.
The Moe Money team was sponsored by NeSmith Chevrolet, Gill Tree Farms, EnviroVac Industrial & Environmental Services and Food Fresh.
In its first year of competition, Hot Spot 5 won two of its past three tournaments. In addition to winning in Darien last weekend, the team placed ninth at the Golden Isle Kingfish Classic. But its biggest prize to date came in the second annual Coastal Empire Kingfish Classic, held June 1 in Richmond Hill. The placed first in the 23-and-under division, winning a 14-foot john boat and trailer powered by a 15-horsepower motor.
Team Hot Spot 5 members are Cameron Mattingly, Captain David Massey, Doc Massey, Ben Carter, Rob Harrington and Tracy Roraback. Sponsors are Dorchester Shooting Preserve, Liberty Auction, Carter Land Services, Southern Earth Construction Company, Coca-Cola, NeSmith of Jesup and Big Nate’s Lock shop.
