Attorney Robert F. "Bob" Pirkle recently received an award from a nationwide fraternity.
He received Sigma Chi’s Significant Sig National Award on June 29 at the fraternity’s 79th Grand Chapter in Washington, D.C.
The award, introduced in 1935, is considered the fraternity’s highest award and is given to a fraternity member who has excelled in his field of study, occupation or community involvement.
Among the 1,500 prior recipients was actor John Wayne, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, talk-show host David Letterman and Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga. This year, country singer Luke Bryan and 25 other professionals from across the United States received the award along with Pirkle.
Pirkle earned his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Georgia. He also earned master’s and jurist doctorate degrees. Pirkle has had his own law practice since 1984 and handles hundreds of cases per year in civil and criminal areas of law.
For the past 13 years, Pirkle has served as chief judge in municipal courts in Richmond Hill, Pembroke and Walthourville, as well as an associate judge for the state court, judge pro tempore for the juvenile court in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit and assistant judge for Ludowici.
He has served as president of the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, YMCA, Athletic Boosters Club, and chairman of Boy Scouts of America and is a founding director of Habitat for Humanity.
