The other day, I was sitting in a parking lot in Savannah when a church sign caught my attention.
It was giving the schedule of each Sunday’s emphasis. The first Sunday was communion Sunday, and two other Sundays had special titles, but the one that stuck out to me had one Sunday listed as “regular worship service.”
I presume the church didn’t mean anything negative about it, but it got me to thinking. I am concerned to some people, church is just a regular worship service, or just an average time to go to church, and then go home. In other words, there is no anticipation that each and every Sunday will be a special day, a time when the spirit of the Lord is present and God ministers to your spirit.
The Lord desires to meet with us and inhabits our praise. Matthew 18:20 tells us, “For where two or three gather in my name, I am with them.”
We ought to go to church with the attitude of King David, as he records his instructions in Psalm 100:4. He tells us to “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.” If you are not a believer, make this next Sunday a special day for you by deciding to be a Christ follower.
If you are a believer, go to church with anticipation and excitement, expecting the Lord to do something special in your life as well as the lives of others.
