It is his first year of varsity football, but incoming freshman Richard LeCounte is already creating buzz among recruiters.
LeCounte started making headlines for his basketball skills and his football skills and athleticism are apparently catching the eyes of scouts as well.
Roughly 500 players from across the Southeast attended the Auburn Tigers’ last football camp of the summer Saturday. According to Rivals.com Southeast analyst Woody Wommack, Liberty County High School’s multi-sport talent impressed him enough to be ranked among his top 10 camp performers.
Wommack said LeCounte could grow into a legitimate talent, much like his Panther teammate and current five-star recruit, Raekwon McMillan.
McMillan, a senior, is the highest coveted linebacker in Georgia.
Wommack said LeCounte did a great job in coverage and during seven-on-seven drills, made good plays.
“His athleticism is clearly one of his best attributes,” Wommack reported.
LeCounte played basketball at Midway Middle School and plays travel basketball in the summer with the South Georgia Kings where he is consistently among the top scorers. His court skills have earned him several invitations to elite camps, including this year’s Future Elite 150 in Powder Springs next weekend.
Panther football coach Kirk Warner has said LeCounte has worked all spring and summer increasing his muscle mass and speed. He said college coaches visiting to watch McMillan during conditioning sessions immediately took note of LeCounte. Warner said several expressed interest in the freshman should his talent continue to grow.
