Ludowici City Councilwoman Gwendolyn Davis, 71, who represents District 5, was in a four-car accident Thursday in Ludowici, according to Ludowici Police Chief James Rogers.
Two other people involved in the accident were airlifted to Savannah for further medical attention.
Davis was taken to an area hospital and checked out, but according to Mayor James Fuller, she appeared to be doing well Friday.
“I think she was banged around some, and her neck is sore, but from what I’ve been told she is doing pretty good today,” he said.
According to Rogers, the accident occurred at around 5 p.m. in the middle of the city. He said that Hinesville resident Joefrey Smith was driving at a high rate of speed west on Highway 84 when his vehicle collided with several others at the Highway 301 intersection. Rogers said that several people sustained minor injuries. Ludowici resident Terrence Johnson sustained what appeared to be the most serious. Rogers said Johnson was treated for an arm injury at the scene and then taken by helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
Rogers said Smith was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville on Thursday, but was transferred to MHUMC later that evening.
On Friday, MHUMC spokesman Michael McKrica said Johnson was listed as being in “fair” condition and Smith in “good” condition.
Rogers said that the Georgia State Patrol had assumed the investigation of the crash, but it appeared that Smith may have had a medical condition that contributed to the accident.
