The Bradwell Lady Tigers softball team got a win Tuesday in their first home game of the season by downing Windsor Forest, 13-5.
The victory also was the first Region 3B-AAAAA victory for the Lady Tigers.
Bradwell’s Kasey Smith pitched four innings in relief to hold off the Lady Knights’ offense, which scored four runs in the top of the first.
The home team answered in the bottom of the inning by scoring three runs.
With one out in the top of the second inning, Lady Tiger catcher Jessica Puckett made a good defensive play on an infield pop-up and later combined with Smith at the plate to tag out a Lady Knight avoiding a run scored. Lady Tiger head coach Sharyl Eastlake said the combination of Puckett and Smith shut down the Lady Knights after the first inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Puckett scored a run to tie the score, 4-4. The Lady Knights then had back-to-back miscues and infield throwing errors, and the Lady Tigers took advantage to take a 6-4 lead.
Smith continued the strong performance in the top of the third by striking out the side. She finished the game with nine strikeouts. The game was called in the sixth inning by the run-rule.
Shania Eldridge hit two singles and a double and scored three runs. Chelsi Shutts hit three singles and two RBIs. Jakaria Fleming had two singles, and Smith scored two runs and had an RBI. Melissa Gregory and Tamia Johnson each had two singles.
