A Midway family was displaced late Friday after their home was destroyed by fire. A 35-year-old husband and his 23-year-old wife were at their home on Screven Fork Road with their two children, ages 2 years and 3 months, when the fire was discovered. The mother told American Red Cross officials on the scene she left a cigarette, which she thought she had extinguished, in the bedroom, which may have started the fire. She said she was gone from the room for about 20 minutes. When she returned and opened the door, she discovered the room on fire. Fire departments from Midway, Riceboro and Walthourville responded to the fire.
