Bradwell Institute Lady Tiger JV and varsity softball teams took on the highly ranked Lady Gators in Ware County on Thursday in a Region 3-5A game.
The late-August heat and the formidable offense of the Lady Gators was too much for both squads.
In the first game of the double header, a young JV Lady Tiger team was beaten, 15-0. Defensive mistakes and runners left on base proved costly.
Eighth-grader Madison Wynn pitched for the Tigers.
In the varsity matchup, MacKenzie Stewart pitched the three inning game. Despite the 14-0 final score, Stewart gave up only six earned runs.
Coach Sharyl Eastlake’s team held the Gators to one run in the first inning. In the bottom of the second, costly errors allowed Ware County to score seven runs.
In the third inning, the Tigers found their bats and began an offensive charge. But with the bases loaded, Ware County’s defense came through and left the Tigers with all three stranded.
Eastlake said, “I was pleased the ladies hit better this game. However, I was frustrated with the nine defensive errors committed. We will continue to concentrate on hitting during practice to increase our base runners. Far too many hitters are being left on base.”
The Bradwell girls will be at Effingham County at 6 p.m Thursday.
