The Long County High School football team tonight will face one of its toughest opponents of the year when it hosts Benedictine Military School.
The Cadets come into the game as the No. 10 team in the state, according to MaxPreps. They are riding high after inflicting a 41-7 thumping on Effingham County last week in their opening game. Last year, the Cadets had a successful inaugural season in Region 2-AA, going 8-4 and making the playoffs.  But after a tough loss to Lamar County ended their season, they are hoping to do even better this year.
Long County also is coming off a big win, having beat Lanier County, 14-12, last Friday in Lakeland. Last year, the Blue Tide enjoyed their best season in school history, going 5-5, and believe they can do even better this year to notch a winning record.
Long County and Benedictine have played each other three times, with the Cadets winning all three contests. The Cadets won last year’s game, 39-0, in Savannah.
Long County head coach Ron Flott said that if the Blue Tide are to have a chance against the Cadets tonight, they will have to play better than they did last week against Lanier County.
“We made a lot of mistakes last week,” he said. “Against (Benedictine), we have got to correct our mistakes. On offense, we can’t make the penalties we made and on defense. We have got to carry out our assignments better than we did. To sum it up, we have got to get better all around.”
Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
