Georgia Southern opens its final season of Southern Conference play at 7 p.m. Saturday when it faces Wofford at Spartanburg, S.C., in a battle of ranked teams.
The Eagles (2-0), ranked No. 10 in the most recent Sports Network poll, are averaging 68 points a game, according to gseagles.com. The GSU offense is pounding out 601 total yards per game, including 441 rushing yards. Defensively, GSU is allowing 13 points and 253.5 total yards per contest.
Wofford (1-1) is averaging 12 points per game on offense and allowing 39.5 points on defense, but most of that damage was done in the Terriers’ season-opening, 69-3 loss to Baylor, currently ranked No. 22 in the Associated Press’ Football Bowl Subdivision poll.
Last week, the Terriers bounced back with a 21-10 win over The Citadel on Saturday in Charleston. According to Wofford’s athletic site, Donovan Johnson had 149 yards rushing and a touchdown on 32 carries, and Will Gay had 81 yards rushing. Wofford had 280 yards on the ground and outgained The Citadel, 421-262, in total yards.
On defense, Kevin Thomas had two sacks and forced two fumbles.
