POSTED: September 24, 2013 8:30 p.m.

I recently went to the Atlanta area for a couple of board meetings and stayed at one of the local motels. In the morning before my first meeting, I turned on the television and started listening to a minister, expecting to hear something from God’s word to help me through the day.
The speaker told how God wanted to meet people’s needs and how he could help them. The process went something like this: The minister would take a bottle containing a mixture of frankincense and myrrh, rub the mixture on his hands and then pray over prayer requests that came in. There was one catch — he would pray only for those who sent in a financial pledge or a one-time gift of at least $360.
My first thought was that there are a lot of desperate people in this world who don’t know where to turn for help. Also, I know there is a loving God who cares for each one of them. He wants us to trust him enough to cause us to commit our lives to following his son, Jesus Christ.
I also believe that the invitation from God is open to anyone who humbles themself before God and sincerely asks. In Matthew 11:28, we read, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” If we want to bring our needs to God, we don’t have to have someone other than Christ Jesus intercede for our needs. Hebrews 4:16 tells us to “approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Our Lord desires for desperate people to know that there is hope and that they can come to him freely. So I encourage you to take your needs to a loving, merciful God.
It is good to have others pray for and with us, but it should be offered without a price. If you need someone to pray for you, please give us a call at 912-445-0196.
