CoastFest Saturday in Brunswick

POSTED: October 2, 2013 12:11 p.m.

The 19th annual CoastFest will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Coastal Regional Headquarters in Brunswick.
Environmental, educational, research and resource exhibitors from throughout the Southeast will join with live entertainers to provide interactive exhibits and displays. Visitors of all ages can participate in activities from recycling to coastal weather; native plants to invasive species; bee keeping to archeology; and herpetology to geology. There will be touch tanks with sea life, birds, turtles, snakes, lizards, alligators, tortoises and a 5,000-gallon aquarium with saltwater fish. U.S Coast Guard boats will be on hand, and participants can do projects.
There also will be an expanded historic village, with military re-enactors from the Revolutionary War through the Civil War, with historic games for kids.
The Coastal Resources exhibit has been expanded. Participants can learn about the new 6,000-gallon rainwater-collection system, see shark ultrasound work and what’s in a shark’s stomach, hear fish sounds and more.
Entertainment scheduled includes magician Arthur Atsma and Jugglemania artist Rhys Thomas. Also, Jim Sawgrass and his family will highlight Native American customs and folklore. The Puppet People will return to CoastFest as well.
