Georgia Southern continues Southern Conference play Saturday by taking on Samford at 3 p.m. in Birmingham, Ala.
The Eagles, who are 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the SoCon, are coming off a come-from-behind, 23-21 win last Saturday at Chattanooga.
According to gseagles.com, GSU leads all of NCAA Division I football in yards rushing with 399.8 per game. The Eagles pound out 500.8 yards of total offense and 44.8 points per game and have converted almost half of their third-down conversions (24-50).
On defense, GSU allows 19.3 points and 314.2 yards a game.
The Bulldogs (3-2, 1-0) average 34.4 points per game on the strength of its passing attack, which produces 276.6 yards per contest. Defensively, Samford gives up 25.8 points and 414.6 yards a game. However, the Bulldogs outshine the Eagles in the return game. Samford averages 27.06 yards per kickoff return and 12.58 yards per punt return, compared to GSU’s averages of 15.8 and 0.2, respectively. Also, Samford has a net average of 41.03 yards per punt, while GSU averages 29.3.
