Tide have tough game tonight against Red Raiders

POSTED: October 4, 2013 10:28 a.m.

After dropping four games in a row, the Long County High School football team will try to right its ship tonight in a Region 2-AA contest with Bacon County at 7:30 in Ludowici.
The Red Raiders bring a 2-3 overall record into tonight’s game and a 2-2 region mark. They opened their season with losses to Pierce County (24-7) and Metter (14-9), but bounced back in weeks three and four with wins over Toombs County (18-0) and Jeff Davis (14-13).  Last week, they led McIntosh County but eventually fell to the Buccaneers, 19-13. Bacon has scored 61 points in five games, averaging 12 points a night, while it has given up 70 points, or 14 points a game.
The Blue Tide come into tonight’s game with a 1-4 overall record and a 0-4 region mark. They opened their season with a 16-12 win over Lanier County, but have dropped four in a row to Benedictine (49-0), Vidalia (42-7), Atkinson County (25-18) and Bryan County (55-21). The Tide have put up a total of 62 points, averaging 12 points a game, while giving up 183 points, or 37 points a night.
Long County head coach Ron Flott said Bacon is a tough team, and he expects them to be ready to play tonight.
“They’re a good team, and they have some good players on the field,” he said. “I know that they have six or seven athletes that easily could be playing for any team in our region. They’re going to run that flex bone right at us, and we have got to play our best football against them.”
According to MaxPreps.com, Long County is No. 53 team in the state in the AA, while Bacon County is ranked No. 36. The two teams met last year for the first time, with the Red Raiders winning, 34-21.
