For the first half of regulation, it appeared the Liberty County High School football team had the game tucked away.
Playing in Augusta the Panthers had a 13-0 lead at half over Glenn Hills. But the Spartans made a game out of it in the second half and nearly took the win.
The Panthers were fortunate enough to walk away unscathed and still undefeated winning 21-19.
Despite the victory, the Panthers need to heed the warning of Friday’s close game on the road. The schedule from here on doesn’t get easier. Each opponent is looking to be the team that brings the undefeated Panthers down.
Their first such challenge happens next Friday when the Panthers host Statesboro High for the first Region 3-AAAA game of the season.
Panther head coach Kirk Warner has said from the start his team is good enough to make the playoffs which seem to be within reach. But the coach has also warned his players that egos and complacency could hurt their chances and no one team could be taken for granted.
The Panthers are 6-0 overall.

Long County loses to Toombs
Long County fell to 1-5 overall and 0-5 in Region 2-AA after losing to Bacon County, 21-6, Friday night in Ludowici. The Blue Tide have next week with a bye-week before heading to Toombs County on Oct. 18.

FPCA  loses to Frederica
First Presbyterian Christian Academy had another tough loss, this time against rival Frederica on St. Simons. The Highlanders fell 44-8. The Highlanders have a bye next week.
The stats for these away games were not available by press time. Read Wednesday’s Courier for the full report.
