The Long County High School football team was off this week, and the break couldn’t have come at a better time.
After finishing last season with a program-best 5-5 record, the team had high hopes this season of posting its first winning record and, possibly, reaching the playoffs. After winning their opening game against Lanier County, the Blue Tide have dropped five straight region games, ending their chance at a winning season and making their dreams of a playoff berth remote.
But though the team has struggled, it has shown improvement in its past two outings against Bryan County and Bacon County.
This Friday, the Blue Tide will be back on the field to play Toombs County (2-4) in Lyons.
Pick up a Wednesday paper for a story on the Blue Tide band earning the right to play at the 2014 Sugar Bowl halftime show and a Friday paper for a preview of the Toombs game.
