There is something awesome about seeing the early morning, especially sunrise. Most people miss the golden moment because they enjoy extra sleep.
Easter morning, however, is different. People will get up early to be a part of sunrise services. The services' start time varies; some churches begin services at 5 a.m., some at 6, while others begin at 7.
Easter sunrise service is a long-standing tradition in many Christian churches all over the world. Resurrection Sunday or Easter Sunday is a time of joy and celebration. The solemnity of Good Friday (the crucifixion) quickly passes because Jesus rose from the grave on this day.
Church members throughout Liberty County will gather early on March 23 for this very special worship service. Some churches combine their service with other churches and come together for a time of worship and fellowship. Nationwide, some churches even hold their services outdoors.
Members of the Midway United Methodist Church and other churches in the Midway community will gather at 7 a.m. for Easter sunrise service at the historic Midway Congregational Church.
Established in 1752, the historical Midway church is on the corner of Highway 17 and Martin Road. The current building was erected in 1792 to replace the building burned by the British in 1778 during the Revolutionary War. After so many years, the old stately church still sits proudly beside the road and is a part of the Historic Liberty Trail.
"For over 50 years the local churches have hosted this amazing experience of worship and celebration," Midway UMC Pastor Doug Walker said. "This historic church site represents what our nation was built upon, 'In God We Trust.'"
Walker and the Midway community invite everyone to be a part of the annual Easter Sunrise worship on that special Sunday. It starts at 7 a.m. He will preach the message.
"It will be a time of worship and fellowship," Walker said.
Following the service, the members of Midway UMC will host a continental breakfast in their social hall. If you have any questions concerning the service, call Walker at 884-2329 or 293-7087.
