LUDOWICI --Long County High School had a lock-in for 11th grade class on March 14 to help them prepare for the upcoming High School Graduation Test.
Friday's event was called the Reality Science Lock-In and 75 students took part in the night.
"These juniors will soon be taking the graduation test for the first time, and the lock-ins are set up to help them prepare for the science and social studies portions of the test," said LCHS Principal Dr. Delores Mallard.
The date of the social studies lock-in will be announced later.
On Friday, the juniors who attended the night were separated into three groups with each going through learning stations set up by science teachers Joseph Austin, Tiffany Cooper, Jason Leigh and Melinda Chancy.
Each station was set up to be fun, but more importantly to reinforce knowledge for the upcoming test. Some of the subjects covered during the night included cells, genetics, ecology, chemistry, energy transformation, forces and motion, and waves, optics, and radioactivity.
According to Mallard, last year's class exceeded the state averages on the graduation test and exceeded the state Regional Education Service Agency scores.
Some of the areas, which the RESA test evaluates, include health, technology, staff development, curriculum and instruction.
"The students have a good time, and they also review many of the areas they will be tested on," said Mallard.
Besides the students having fun and reinforcing their science skills, they also ate well since the school furnished pizza, snacks and drinks. The night began at 5 p.m. and wrapped up at 10 p.m.
